MUSIC / GUIDE

Explore kayokyoku events

Kayokyoku DJ sessions explore Japanese popular song through melody, vocal performance and selection. Familiarity is one attraction, but sequencing can also reveal unexpected rhythms and production details. Period, artist and label themes provide useful clues to the programme.

How to choose a session

  • Check for a particular period or singer, or a broad popular-song selection.
  • Use the venue and description to distinguish a listening-bar session from a dance-led party.
